In Kerala's Wayanad district, Indian Army personnel received a touching send-off after concluding a 10-day rescue operation in the aftermath of a catastrophic landslide. The Kochi Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) expressed deep appreciation for the soldiers' bravery and dedication, remarking, "We are deeply grateful to our brave heroes who risked everything during the landslide rescue operations...Your courage and sacrifice won't be forgotten."
As the soldiers prepared to leave, locals gathered to bid them farewell, chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Indian Army ki Jai.
The landslides, which occurred on July 30 in Chooralmala and Mundakkai, resulted in over 300 deaths and widespread destruction. The Indian Army, alongside the Indian Air Force and state authorities, undertook a perilous rescue mission lasting more than 10 days.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, speaking on Tuesday, pledged that his government would implement top-notch rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas, aiming to set a benchmark for disaster recovery.
